Neural Skills for Human Performance Practitioner

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.

Human Skills are Neural Skills

Human capabilities cannot be developed through knowledge alone. They require procedural learning: structured practice that strengthens the neural pathways underlying how people focus, respond, decide, connect, and perform.

Neuroscience has given us a clearer map of how this learning occurs. The Practitioner course translates this science into eight weeks of explicit learning, direct experience, repeated neural practice, and application to real situations in life and work.

Three Reasons Professionals Enroll

Develop Yourself

Strengthen the neural capabilities that support human wellbeing, leadership effectiveness, relationship development, and work performance.

Advance Your Career

Bring new science and neural skills to your own work—and into your organization, coaching, or consulting practice.

Expand Your Practice

Earn the foundational credential required to continue into the Certified Neural Skills Coach and Certified Neural Skills Teacher programs.

Course Outline

Eight weeks, eight capabilities. Each week pairs the underlying science with guided practice and direct application to life and work.

Week 1

Explore
The Neuroscience of Performance

Understand how the brain and nervous system shape behavior, learning, relationships, and performance—and how self-directed neuroplasticity can be used to develop new capabilities.

Week 2

Map
Essential Neural Skills and Practices

Learn to recognize the habits, beliefs, triggers, internal states, and automatic patterns that influence how you think, feel, relate, and perform.

Week 3

Regulate
Resolve Stress, Anxiety, and Burnout

Develop practical neural skills for regulating stress and emotion, calming nervous-system activation, and reducing the patterns that contribute to anxiety, exhaustion, and burnout.

Week 4

Engage
Reclaim Focus and Attention Control

Strengthen your ability to direct, sustain, shift, and broaden attention while reducing distraction and improving clarity, engagement, and productive performance.

Week 5

Adapt
Navigate Change and Uncertainty

Build the cognitive flexibility, learning agility, openness, and emotional steadiness required to respond effectively to disruption, volatility, and continuous change.

Week 6

Connect
Activate Emotional Intelligence

Develop greater emotional awareness, empathy, social perception, and interpersonal attunement to understand yourself and others more accurately.

Week 7

Relate
Establish Trust and Psychological Safety

Apply neural skills to communication, collaboration, influence, conflict, trust, belonging, and the conditions that support psychological safety.

Week 8

Recover
Build Mental Strength and Resilience

Strengthen your ability to recover from pressure and setbacks, restore energy and perspective, and sustain effective performance over time.

Bring Neural Skills to the World

Neural Skills Certification can do more than strengthen your own performance. It can open new opportunities for your career, your coaching or consulting practice, and your work with leaders, teams, and organizations.

Graduates can bring neural skills into their existing work and professional programs. Qualified Certified Neural Skills Teachers may also apply to become IOSM Teaching Partners—licensed to deliver selected IOSM-branded courses, workshops, and certificate programs to their own clients, networks, and organizational markets.

Teaching Partners receive ready-to-deliver curriculum, instructional resources, learning tools, program support, and access to a growing portfolio of science-based programs. The opportunity is designed to help qualified professionals expand their services, reach new audiences, and build new sources of revenue.

Certification prepares you to apply, coach, and teach neural skills. Teaching Partnership gives you a platform to take IOSM programs to market.

FAQ

How much time should I plan each week?

Participants should plan for approximately three to four hours each week, including the 90-minute live class, portal learning, and brief neural practices incorporated into daily life and work.

When are the live classes held?

Each cohort meets once a week for 90 minutes. The class remains on the same day and at the same time throughout the eight-week course. Available cohort dates and meeting times are listed on the Schedule, Tuition, Special Programs, and Enrollment page.

What happens if I miss a live class?

Live participation is strongly encouraged, but every class is recorded. Participants may complete a missed session by watching the class video in the Companion Learning Portal.

What are neural micro-practices?

Micro-practices are brief, targeted mental, emotional, attentional, or behavioral exercises designed to be repeated during daily life and work. They allow participants to develop neural skills without requiring long periods away from their regular responsibilities.

Does the program require meditation?

No sustained meditation practice is required. The program includes brief awareness, attention, regulation, somatic, visualization, and related neural practices selected for their practical application.

What are the weekly examlets?

Examlets are brief weekly knowledge checks designed to reinforce the science, concepts, and applications introduced in each module and help participants prepare for the comprehensive final examination.

How long will I have access to the Companion Learning Portal?

Participants retain access to the Practitioner course portal, class recordings, practices, and learning resources throughout the instruction period of 8 to 16 weeks and for 60 days after completing the course.

Does Practitioner Certification qualify me to coach others?

Practitioner Certification verifies foundational knowledge, direct practice, and personal and professional application. Certified Neural Skills Coach is the credential designed to prepare participants to guide other people in developing and applying neural skills.

Can I pause before continuing to Coach Certification?

Yes. Practitioner is a rigorous standalone certification. Graduates may continue directly into Coach Certification or return with a later cohort, with no time limit for continuing.

How are the ICF and SHRM credits used?

Eligible credential holders may apply the approved ICF Continuing Coach Education credits or SHRM Professional Development Credits toward their applicable professional recertification requirements. IOSM will provide the completion documentation and reporting information required for each program.
