Summary
We could all benefit by tweaking our behavior in ways that could optimize our health. But we can't change any behavior until we become aware that we are engaging in a specific behavior, aware that it is not conducive to optimal health, aware of another way, and aware of opportunities to practice healthier behavior.

Mindfulness is the foundation of everything I write about on my website, in my blog, articles, and interviews. It's foundational because without awareness of our thinking patterns, we can't change our behavior. Mindfulness, as defined by contextual Behavioral Sciences and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), is about living in contact with the present moment. It's like waking up from a dream, realizing we have more choices than we imagined, the freedom to act or not act, and the ability to see the bigger picture.
